FALWELL AND ROBERTSON ARE AMERICA'S TALIBAN

by Sean Prophet

Following is documentation of one of the most appalling statements ever made in the name of god or religion in the United States of America. Yes, fanaticism in the U.S. of A is alive and well.

FALWELL BLAMES GAYS, LESBIANS

Right Wing Minister Lists Groups, Declares "You Helped This Happen"

The Rev. Jerry Falwell, the right wing "Christian" minister who founded the "Moral Majority" political movement, leads Liberty University and pastors a major Southern Baptist church in Lynchburg, Virginia, took to the airwaves Thursday -- and listed people who have "made God mad," including homosexuals.

In a reference to the horrific terrorist attacks, Falwell declared, "I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.'" Falwell made his comments on the "700 Club," a daily broadcast by a fellow Christian right winger, Rev. Pat Robertson. Robertson said, "I totally concur."

Earlier in the program, Robertson said the US has exported gay sex and pornography, and peoples of the world who are revolted are striking out against Satan. Robertson also made a particularly vitriolic attack on the state of Israel.

The transcript of Falwell's comments follows:

"The ACLU's got to take a lot of blame for this. And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God or successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked.

"And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen'."

Falwell's statement was first disclosed to the queer community in a news release from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. "The terrible tragedy that has befallen our nation, and indeed the entire global community, is the sad byproduct of fanaticism," said Lorri L. Jean, executive director of the Task Force. "It has its roots in the same fanaticism that enables people like Jerry Falwell to preach hate against those who do not think, live, or love in the exact same way he does," Jean said.

"The tragedies that have occurred this week did not occur because someone made God mad, as Mr. Falwell asserts," Jean continued, in a statement released Sept. 13. "They occurred because of hate, pure and simple."

Taking note of the moral state of America, Falwell said

America "probably deserves" the punishment of terrorism that God is inflicting. He also gloated that members of Congress who gathered on the steps of the Capitol sang "God Bless America."

It is hard to even comment on such despicable lies and manipulations. What is sad is that in reality, Falwell and Co. have tried to turn a national tragedy into a recruiting opportunity. Capitalizing on fear, this zealot bastard is just trying to scare more people into following him. This is not new or unique. Following the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, many fundamentalist christians claimed that god was punishing the San Fernando Valley for its flourishing porn industry. Today in the wake of September 11, churches advertise on television as never before. Indeed, American's climate of fear is the best opening they've had in decades.

Throughout history, jealous, controlling people, con-men, and zealots have attempted to use the concept of god to get men to do what they wanted. Any natural or man-made disaster is pretext enough for a foreboding glare and cries of "Repent, sinners!" As John Lennon once so aptly put it, "god is a concept by which we measure our pain."

Since my parents were both ministers, I've heard this rhetoric all my life. As a child, for years I was told abortion would result in the destruction of America. I heard this before I was old enough to know what abortion was. But you'd think that Falwell, being at least somewhat of a politician, would recognize the poignancy of the moment and refrain from commenting. But no, a leopard can't change its spots, and Falwell once again exposed himself as a bigot, full of hate, and an enemy of freedom and the American way of life.

Fanaticism and hatred is what brought down the World Trade Center. And Falwell has plenty of both. I daresay the dead hijackers and Falwell are headed for the same place - if there turns out to be an afterlife - and it ain't heaven!

THE GRUDGE - By Tool

Wear your grudge like a crown of negativity.
Calculate what we will or will not tolerate.
Desperate to control all and everything.
Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen.

Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down.
Justify denials and grip it to the lonesome end.
Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down.
Terrified of being wrong. Ultimatum prison cell.

Saturn ascends, choose one or ten. Hang on or be humbled again.

Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down.
Justify denials and grip it to the lonesome end.
Saturn ascends, comes round again.
Saturn ascends, the one, the ten. Ignorant to the damage done.

Wear your grudge like a crown of negativity.
Calculate what you will or will not tolerate.
Desperate to control all and everything.
Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen.

Wear the grudge like a crown. Desperate to control.
Unable to forgive. And we're sinking deeper.

Defining, confining, sinking deeper. Controlling, defining, and we're sinking deeper.

Saturn comes back around to show you everything
Let's you choose what you will not see and then
Drags you down like a stone or lifts you up again
Spits you out like a child, light and innocent.

Saturn comes back around. Lifts you up like a child or
Drags you down like a stone to
Consume you till you choose to let this go.
Choose to let this go.

Give away the stone. Let the oceans take and transmutate this cold and fated anchor.
Give away the stone. Let the waters kiss and transmutate these leaden grudges into gold.

Let go.
