Beginning to Begin

By Beth Lewis

I will lay you down
on a desert bed
speak your name, breathe your flame
in a holy minute

by the waning moon
In a lover's swoon
you and me, and everybody
that's been, ever, in it

I'm just beginning
to begin love
will you show me in

Take a beating heart
from the very start
it's a mess, it's a test
it's a tug of power

first an open hand
then before you know it
land mines, squeezed blind
think I'll take a shower

I'm just beginning
to begin love
will you show me in

Let me taste your sweat
Let me kiss your brow
Show me how to allow
One present moment

Without the lock and key
I don't know how to be
This heart's been guarded
From my first moment

I'm just beginning
to begin love
will you show me in
