Havana’s former grandeur decays and crumbles

It is Cuba’s most densely-populated district, with 160,000 people living in 1.3 square miles of crumbling buildings dating from the 1920s and 1930s, many now lacking basic sanitation.

It’s the communism, stupid: Homes lacking basic sanitation, people raising chickens in a former theater, high-ceilinged rooms made into cramped 2 story ‘apartments.’ That’s what you get. Are you paying attention, Hugo Chavez?
