Families protest against other families

May 12,2007 | ROME — Hundreds of thousands of people, including families with their children, packed a Rome piazza on Saturday to protest legislation that would give legal rights to unmarried couples, including gay and lesbian partners.

Once again, religion divides. We are treated to the absurd spectacle of one type of family protesting another type. In the end this is simply about the loss of power of an increasingly irrelevant institution which still seeks to define how human beings follow that other church commandment to “love one another.”
