God gets all credit and no blame in Peru earthquake

A powerful 7.9 magnitude earthquake has hit the coast of Peru, killing at least 337 people and injuring hundreds more, Peru’s civil defence institute says. TV reports said 17 people were killed and dozens injured when the Senor de Luren church in Ica collapsed during evening mass.

President Garcia thanked God that the earthquake had not caused “a catastrophe with an immense number of victims”.

Why did ‘god’ decide not to spare the lives of those who were faithfully worshiping ‘him’ in church? And why did the President of Peru see fit to thank ‘him’ even though hundreds of people died?

yes, just truth…
what god…? can’t beleive how people are blind and follow blindly… Does noone reads, educates, thinks— at least to doubt???
it+s very easy to say everything is someone’s will…
I’m sure more under-educated and sheep-type persons are believers, although there are exceptions. I can’t understand such people don’t see that these are just the systems manipulating with them - state, church, politics…

I recomend to stay independent and thoughtful. be critical and be ethical. that’s it.

if there’s any afterlife, that will be bonus, but not to preocupate with that. Maybe it’s just life and nothing else. Pitty or not.

God is not responsible for death, only life. No one can hold Him responsible, for everyone who is blessed with life, will some day die. That is undeniable. I pray for the multitude of people as yourself, that deny God and live only for this world. I would rather believe in God and if nothing happens after I die, then nothing happens. But if I didn’t believe and have faith in God and it turns out I was wrong, it will be too late. That is a chance I am not willing to take. Besides there is not one thing written in the Bible that makes life worse. What is so bad about bringing comfort, and joy and giving a purpose and meaning to our short time here on earth?

I would rather believe in God and if nothing happens after I die, then nothing happens. But if I didn’t believe and have faith in God and it turns out I was wrong, it will be too late.

But your belief does nothing to change the reality. Wouldn’t you rather have truth than comfort?–sorry, rhetorical question, since you made it clear you prefer comfort.

Actually the bible is full of hate and barbarism. See this page for a sample. A loving god wouldn’t have inspired such manipulative and sadistic nonsense. And he certainly wouldn’t blame his children for thinking for themselves and demanding evidence of his existence.

Nothing. This is what humanism attempts to do. Religion does the exact opposite. Praying is supposed to make a difference, but it doesn’t. People in church got squashed. Proof that god doesn’t care for or protect his own. He is utterly indifferent to human suffering and/or powerless to stop it. In people’s minds, he takes all the credit and gets none of the blame. Because he is a human construct–an imaginary friend.

BlackSun - right on every point. I wish more people would devote time and energy to improving our actual condition instead of praying in their multi-million dollar churches to a being that exists only in the collective minds of their sheep-followers. Some world we live in, eh? I guess at the end of the day, most of us are still monkeys without a clear picture of the world, easy to panic, and quick to believe in fictitious forces.
