On LinkedIn? Join the Atheist Network

Ronaldo Menezes created the LinkedIn atheist network. The professional world seems to be the last bastion against discussing your religious beliefs or lack thereof. (Wouldn’t want to lose that job or promotion to a Christian now, would we?) But that kind of thinking just preserves the status quo. As we become more vocal and visible, professional discrimination becomes less acceptable. Help other professional atheists come out of the closet by joining and increasing the prominence of the network.

Thanks for the post. It would be really nice if we all become more active and more visible. The direct link to the atheist group is

Had no idea — I was invited to join by one of my library colleagues but haven’t really done much with this.

I suppose it does help preserve the status quo, but the reality is that some atheists would actually be in danger of losing their jobs and/or not being considered by the next potential employer simply because of their atheism. I will agree with you that those of us who can afford to join a network like this should probably do so. Still, it is not without risk, and I’d have a hard time encouraging others to join without making sure they were aware of what they have to lose.

Thank you for this – wasn’t aware of the group.

@ vjack, I am at a loss for words that this is the reality for some people. Losing your job because you don’t believe in god or gods?
